Getting the best out of Peter Sweeney could be the key to kick-starting Dartford’s season.

The 29-year-old, who’s spent almost his entire career in the Football League, brings unquestionable quality to the Darts midfield.

But the question is where he fits in. Max Cornhill and Elliot Bradbrook are manager Tony Burman’s first-choice central midfield pairing, so Sweeney’s only starts so far have been in wide areas.

Burman, though, won’t pigeon-hole the former Millwall, Stoke and Bury man.

He said: "Peter’s a midfielder. If he plays on the left of midfield, it doesn’t make him a left-winger and if he plays on the right of midfield, it doesn’t make him a right-winger.

"He can play anywhere across the middle of the park and we need players who can play in a number of positions."

Burman added: "He needs to get a little bit fitter and he will do that. He’s coming in during the daytime because he does need to be sharper. Peter comes in because he only lives 10 minutes from the ground. We’ve had a good chat about his fitness and he will get there."
