There will be a few shrewd judges watching the progress of Ballyroyal Socks with interest.

The Jean Liles-trained dog has had just 12 races here, winning four, to climb steadily up the grading ladder from bottom grade A8 up to grade A4 in just eight weeks – tremendous progress.

The dog had just one full race in Tralee, Ireland over 325m, which she won, before travelling over to join the Liles kennel at Crayford.

Take note that she has only once missed her breakaway from the traps, with the rest showing early pace and this will hold her in good stead.

Her latest win was a flawless performance by four lengths in a time that strongly suggests progress will continue.

After two indifferent runs, Big Bubbles seems to have got the idea and has started to show us what he is made of.

Like all pups, he is still in the learning stage but the signs are that he is a quick learner after winning both of his last two starts – one over 380m and the other over 540m.

This suggests that the dog has plenty of scope.

With just five career races to date, he has much to look forward to and with both of these wins coming in grades A7 and S7 respectively, the only way to go is up.

I expect the dog to improve in all areas, including faster starts and those will be good enough to win in grades A6 and S6, whichever his trainer chooses for the dog on his re-appearance.

One for your notebook, I think.

I liked the run put in by Bru Brae last Friday night when the dog showed good pace around the last two bends into the home straight which saw him draw away to win by just under four lengths.

Clearly he has a lot of stamina, as this race was only over 380m but the way he drew clear and then went even further way over the winning line shows that 540m here would suit him better.

The dog has previous wins over 525m at both Cork and Limerick on his race record and looks an ideal type for Crayford.

Watch out for the switch with him here from 380m to 540m.
