All the latest from Crayford Greyhound Track

Saturday night should prove to be excellent entertainment as we stage the heats of the JB Riney MBE Kent Champion Hurdle as well as the Owners Bonus latest event.

The finals will be run on Saturday, November 15. Runners are not available at the time of print but we can expect some top-class greyhounds going to traps.

While only a handful of greyhounds at the recent auction held here were bought by owners who race their dogs at Crayford, a couple have already won.

Kydar Beauty was having her fourth race here last Friday night and won her S6 event in a decent time of 34.43sec over the 540m distance.

This followed on from two last places and a fifth-place finish so it would appear she is now getting to grips with how to run the track. That sort of win time would normally be good enough to win in a grade higher which she will now be promoted to.

She had been experiencing a lot of crowding in her races but made no mistake this time in leading from trap to line.

Twilight Des has that little bit of quality and started his racing career here in an open race over 380m. He recently represented Crayford in the team that took on dogs from Romford and Sittingbourne in the latter’s home leg of this year’s BAGS/SIS Track Championship.

The dog finished a creditable third having led in his race until the run-in and it looked then that perhaps the 480m there was not to his liking.

That said, on his return back to Crayford, he had a race in top grade S1 over 540m when finishing fourth.

Clearly, the dog has ability and it would appear that at the moment his connections are still not sure what the best distance is – but rest assured he will win races here in the coming weeks.

The October Dog and Bitch-of-the-Month awards were won by Minglers and Cavies Magpie respectively and, from past experience, it is usually the case that such greyhounds carry their good form into the following month.

Minglers Loch has won four of his last six starts, including a heat in the Track Championship event, and the dog looks to still be improving. Cavies Magpie won three successive races in October to win her award.
