Crayford greyhounds will be travelling to Sittingbourne on Sunday to compete in the second leg of the BAGS/SIS Track Championship.
The Crayford team, comprising 20 dogs, will take part in 10 races over various distances against opposition from Sittingbourne and Romford – the other track in Group D of this national event.
Crayford (107 points) go into this stage with a lead from the home leg. Romford have 91 and Sittingbourne 82.
The meeting on Sunday sees the track opening at 5pm, with races between 6pm and 9.30pm. The final leg is at Romford on Monday, November 17.
Back at Crayford there was a great final in the Carlsberg Kent St Leger, which resulted in Borna Champ – trained by John Mullins at Yarmouth – landing the £2,500 winner’s prize after an impressive four-and-three-quarter-length victory.
Leading fancies Millwards Amy and Sidaz Dippy could only finish in fourth and sixth places respectively, while Crayford’s sole representative, Fort Hill Storm, did well to finish third.
Newcomer Droopys Priya has been impressive in her first three career races here, winning in grades A3 in her debut race over 380m followed by success last weekend in an open race over 540m for trainer Julie Luckhurst.
The dog will not be two years old until January, so the early signs are that she could turn out to be a top-class performer here over the winter months.
Clearly, the local bookmakers have identified her potential having sent the dog off at the weekend as the 6/4 favourite, but she would have given her supporters a bit of a scare as she came home by just the distance of a neck.
She is one to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
Trainer Ian Stevens will also have been delighted with the winning debut from Rock N Rye in her S7 grade race here last Friday evening.
The dog was purchased at the recent sales here at Crayford and her time of 34.79 strongly suggests she has plenty in hand to go on and win an S6 race in the next couple of attempts.
My top dog for you to follow is Lucozade Danni, who won in top grade A1 here again last Friday. The dog may well be part of our team at Sittingbourne on Sunday.
