After all of the excitement surrounding the Golden Jacket, the focus must now turn back to our own graded runners.

One of the benefits of good support open races at Jacket time is that they give a very good guide to which Crayford-trained greyhounds have performed well and, in turn, should then figure prominently in graded events.

Three dogs that should be noted are Hearthill Fairy, Maggies Image and Knockane Tiger.

Hearthill Fairy won a trials race here in the Peter Bussey Memorial Stakes and was followed home in the race by Maggies Image.

Fairy came home at large odds of 6/1 over the 540m trip and has improved since the middle of last year to reach and compete in top- grade races here over the distance.

While she is not the type to trap out in front, she does seem to grind out the wins coming from off the pace.

With her it will always be a case that if she is handy around the last couple of bends she will have every chance of getting up to snatch the win.

Maggies Image was not disgraced when four lengths behind her kennel-mate, given that the dog had only previously managed to win at S3 level. This was a very good effort and she should fare better in her next S2 race.

She is a lightly-raced dog, having had only 20 races in the last 12 months, and the best she previously managed in an S2 event was fourth.

However I am expecting a better showing next time, given the way she ran in the Peter Bussey race.

Knockane Tiger qualified from an original starting line-up of 18 to represent Crayford in the Lawrence Brothers Inter-Track Trophy final at Wimbledon.

His place was hard-earned as he came with a very late and powerful run to get up and beat Hi Her by just a head in our heat leg here.

The dog, trained by Julie Luckhurst, won twice in grade S1 here recently and when he returns to our race card after his appearance at Wimbledon there must be every reason to think he will land another top-class graded race over 540m.

This form line is a good indication that the unlucky Hi Her, who has progressed up through the grades, should also be respected.
