There is nothing quite like a bit of inter-track rivalry with the Bookmakers Afternoon Greyhound Service (BAGS) Track Championship event starting shortly.

We here at Crayford will be competing initially in our own area league stage against both Romford and Sittingbourne.

The format of this national competition has several leagues across the country with the winning track from each league then meeting in a grand final to determine the top track for 2014.

Each track holds a “home” leg and in our league, the three fixtures start at Romford tonight (Thursday) followed by leg two at Sittingbourne on November 14 and ending here on November 28.

Each track will be providing a team of greyhounds to compete and they will earn points for their track.

The four dogs selected by Crayford are chosen not only on their individual ability but also in consideration of the distances of the races involved.

The Racing Office selected Dash On Black, Powerfast Puma, Lynton Choco and Short Stroll.

Dash On Black is our speed merchant and she has caught the eye since joining Barry O’Sullivan’s kennels and having her debut race here in late August.

The youngster will not lose her puppy status until next February and has already reached top grade A1 here over 380 metres in 12
races.

Powerfast Puma is also relatively inexperienced with just 10 career races and while she has run over 540m here, her latest win came on Saturday night over the extended trip of 714m which she clearly stays over without any difficulty.

In contrast, both Lynton Choco and Short Stroll have plenty of race experience on their side and I can see both dogs being big players in this competition.

Lynton Choco had no fewer than 50 races at Romford before joining the Crayford racing strength so he should put in a good showing at Romford.

Short Stroll, who won here last weekend, is the type who always gives 100%.
He’s had 47 career races and is equally as effective over 700m as his is over 575m and could prove to be our trump card.
