Boley Blues won for column followers last week at odds of 9-4, while the also-tipped Backdoor Larry was unlucky to finish second in his latest race in grade S2.

The latter is certainly worthy of further support and will go close next time.

Toystory Star, trained by Arun Green, is a dog I have always had a bit of a soft spot for. While he may not be a world beater, he is the type who generally gives a good account of himself when racing.

It has been pleasing to see the dog have a bit of a purple patch lately, winning his last three races in grades A5, A4 and A3.

The question now is can he win an A2 race?

You have to go back to last July for his last appearance in grade A2 when he finished third in 24.04sec over the 380m course.

However, he is a faster dog nowadays and registered 23.74 a fortnight ago. In the right company, that sort of time would just about be good enough to win.

Expect a decent price and an all-out performance when he next goes to traps.

There was an eye-catching run at the weekend from Croggan Man, who flew home in an A4 grade race in a time of 23.50.

To put this in perspective, the A1 top grade race on the same card was won in 23.47 so, in theory, this gives the dog plenty of scope to win in at least grades A3 and A2.

The dog is trained by Paul Tompsett and this fast time was no fluke given he had previously won in 23.68.

He is clearly likely to improve, having already won in three of his eight starts at Crayford and could be a good thing over the next few weeks.

Similarly, I would suggest you keep an eye on the anticipated progress of Trumpers Gemma trained by Ian Stevens.

The dog will not lose her puppy status until October and has made a good start to her career here with four wins from 13 races. Her latest victory came on Saturday when romping home in an A5 race in 23.78.

Check out that fast sectional time as well of 3.59 – that is good enough to win at most levels here and if repeated, will see her win again on her re-appearance.
