Dartford are confident Steve King is the man to help them back to the National League.

King beat off big competition to land a two-and-a-half year deal at Princes Park.

His immediate target is to lead Darts up National League South but, long-term, he's been brought in to get them promoted.

Tony Burman was on the interviewing panel in his role as a club director and is certain they have the best man for the job.

"We had those three years in the Conference and it's the place to be," said Burman.

"I'm not saying it's got to happen this year - we're in a bit of an awkward situation at the moment - but our long-term aim is to get back up.

"We had a good time up there, it's where you want to be and, as a club, we should be up there.

"We offered Steve the job because we feel he's the right man to help us achieve that.

"There's a buzz around the place, which is good, and I'm confident Steve can take us forward to realise those ambitions."

King, who left Welling last summer, was one of 40 applicants to succeed Jamie Coyle and Adam Flanagan.

Burman was impressed with the standard but King was their man.

"The three or four applicants at the end were all excellent," said Burman, who won four of his six games as caretaker boss.

"After the interview process it was so difficult to select a manager but you have to do it and Steve come out in front.

"There were a lot of really big names in for the job and when you have 40 applications you've got to whittle them down.

"A lot stood out and we were absolutely delighted with the people who applied for the job.

"I would recommend a lot of the guys who came in to other clubs, without any doubt, but we offered it to Steve and we're delighted he accepted.

"He's been around and I think he's been waiting for a chance at a club like ours.

"Hopefully he'll do things his way and we can came move up the table."
