Dartford manager Tony Burman felt his side should have beaten Alfreton by a greater margin on Saturday.

A goal late in the first half from Gillingham loanee Adam Birchall earned the Darts a 1-0 win over the Derbyshire side and Burman was delighted to pick up three points.

But he believed the scoreline didn't reflect the home side's dominance, with Birchall in particular going close to a second goal on several occasions.

Burman said: "We got one goal but in all honesty, in the second half we could have finished the game off. We didn’t, but fair play to Alfreton, they’re a decent side.

"Alfreton did push forward and they put some good balls into the box but you’re going to get that in this league. I think that’s when we can counter-attack, especially at home with the players we’ve got."

Dartford travel to Aldershot Town on Tuesday night but they may be without new signing Matt Fry, who injured his hamstring on Saturday.

Tyrone Sterling (ankle) played no part against Alfreton and he is unlikely to be ready for the trip to Hampshire, so Burman may have to look elsewhere for cover at left-back.

He said: "It looks like Matt might just have tweaked a hamstring or he’s stiff, so he’s come off. This is what happens and that’s why you need a big squad.

"I’m not too sure what the situation will be for Tuesday. He may be alright but I can’t tell you for sure.

"Tyrone’s not fit at the moment. Hopefully Matt can come through but if not, James Rogers has filled in quite comfortably. That’s what you need as well, when you’re not running with a big squad. You’ve got to have players who may be called on to play in different positions."

Aldershot, who drew 1-1 at Grimsby on Saturday, started the Skrill Premier season with a 10-point deduction for going into administration after their relegation from League 2 in May.

And they only avoided liquidation when supporters raised more than £85,000 to pay off the club's creditors.

"It’s great that Aldershot are still around," Burman said. "I’m sure they’ll have a decent side there and all the games in this league are going to be difficult."
