Welling had striker Sahr Kabba to thank for rescuing a point against fellow strugglers Altrincham on Saturday.

The Wings were trailing after a shocking second-half error by on-loan Fulham keeper Marek Rodak.

But Kabba pounced from close range after Kadell Daniel's effort was only half-blocked by the visitors.

Welling defended against a strong wind in the first half and spent long periods camped in their own half.

Altrincham served an early warning inside the first minute when Jonny Margetts fluffed his lines in front of goal.

It needed a fantastic one-handed save from Rodak to deny Scott Leather's close-range header from a corner. The rebound then came back off the post and Welling somehow managed to clear their lines.

Luke Wanadio looked lively on his home debut for the Wings. Operating on either flank, Wanadio cut inside from the right to fire straight at the keeper and then later in the half, he cut in from the left to force another good stop from Tim Deasy.

Chances continued to come for Altrincham with bustling striker Michael Rankine a handful for makeshift Welling centre-back Nortei Nortey.

The breakthrough came for Altrincham on 57 minutes when Rodak missed his kick and Rankine was left with an open goal to walk the ball home.

It was a horrible error but something that happens all too often to teams down the foot of the table.

Welling shuffled their pack in the closing stages but never looked like pulling level until Kabba scored at the death.

It means they remain four points away from safety with 16 games left to play.

Their scheduled trip to Dover on Tuesday night has been postponed after Whites drew in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
