Welling lost back-to-back home games in the National League after play-off chasing Macclesfield claimed three points on Saturday.
The Wings huffed and puffed but never looked like getting back into a game they trailed from the early stages.
Visiting keeper Shwan Jalal nearly gifted Welling a first-minute lead but George Porter's shot lacked power after Jalal threw the ball straight to him.
Macclesfield responded and Danny Whitaker shot wide from the edge of the box before they took a sixth-minute lead.
Kristian Dennis was given time and space to run at the Welling defence and his low-shot went in via the upright.
Welling played some decent football in patches but their lack of a killer touch in front of goal was evident. This was a team with just four league goals to their name in the last six matches.
Ricky Wellard's free-kick went over while the hard-working Reece Harris saw his left-foot shot saved at the near post.
Porter then headed over Ben Jefford's near-post corner while at the other end it needed a fine save from Michael McEntegart to deny David Fitzpatrick a second goal for Macclesfield.
Chances were few and far between after the break. Sam Corne and Porter both headed wide at the far post.
Macclesfield were a well-drilled team with plenty of ability. They always looked in control despite not creating too many openings after the break.
Welling introduced Tashan Adeyinka and Xavier Vidal but still lacked quality, the latter's first touch was a free-kick straight at the wall.
Adeyinka headed wide and while Michael Bakare came off the bench to provide some much-needed power and aggression up top, he was unable to conjure up an equaliser.
Welling: McEntegart, Jefford, Fagan, Porter, Lee (Bakare 80mins), St.Aimie (Adeyinka 56mins), Wellard (Vidal 69mins), Lokko, Corne, Harris, Williams. Subs not used: King, Nortey.
Attendance: 577.
