Danny Mills put his head in where it hurt for Dartford on Saturday.

The on-loan Ebbsfleet striker was about a foot off the ground when he headed in Lee Noble's low cross to give Darts the lead at Eastbourne.

Mills' first-half goal proved to be the winner for Tony Burman's side, who remain top of National League South with three games to go.

Mills said: "The ball was on our right-hand side, it came across and a lot of the boys said 'why have you gone with your head?' because it was really low.

"But I've been in those situations before, the ball's bobbling and it can come off your shin or your ankle and go anywhere.

"I trusted myself a bit more with my head. I thought I could get good contact with it and as long as I get it on target, the keeper throws it in or it goes in the back of the net. It was a good team goal.

"We were maybe a little bit nervous before the goal. They had a lot of the ball and a few chances but once we scored, it settled us down and our game management was brilliant. For all the possession they had, they didn't really harm us.

"It was on the edge of the box and a few crosses but that's down to our good shape, game management and having a bit of nous."

This was Dartford's sixth win in a row and they've now kept four clean sheets in their last five matches.

Mills said: "It's always hard coming to places like Eastbourne. They play really good football and they had a lot of possession but we knew that if we could soak up the pressure and keep a good shape, you look at the players in our side like Alfie Pavey and Andy Pugh and there's goals in the team.

"We always know we're going to score but we just needed to make sure we were patient and concentrated.

"They're not really playing for anything so we knew that if we got the second, that would have pretty much killed the game off.

"At 1-0, you always give a team a chance and it just takes one lapse in concentration or one mistake and they're in. But we stood up well to the pressure and we'll take 1-0.

"It doesn't matter how we get the results, it doesn't matter how we're playing, we just need to win. It's the business end of the season and you just want three points."
