Mark Arber has explained why he chose not to sign a new contract at Dartford.
The 35-year-old defender played 44 times for the Darts in 2012-13 but he will not be at the club next season.
A statement on the Dartford website said Arber’s exit was “more to do with the length of the contract that was offered” and not related to finance or travel.
Some fans believed Arber had demanded a two-year deal but he revealed he only wanted a contract half that length.
He said: “If it was a one-year contract, I would have signed. That’s what I signed last year.
“It was discussed amicably. When you can’t come to an agreement that suits everyone, there’s a time when you have to shake hands.
“I’ve fallen out with people in the past because I thought I was right and they were wrong. I didn’t want to do that again.”
