Big turn-out for road race

More then 1,000 runners took part in the Les Witton 10 at Princes Park Stadium on Sunday.

The event, which was organised by Dartford Road Runners, was run in almost near perfect racing conditions.

The male race soon developed into a contest between Crispian Bloomfield (Billericay Striders), Peter Tucker (Blackheath & Bromley) and Paul Martelletti (Victoria Park Harriers).

The trio stayed together for more than eight miles before Tucker pulled away to win in a time of 53.37 from Bloomfield and Martelletti.

In the female race, Clare Elms (Dulwich Park Runners) and Tina Oldershaw (Paddock Wood AC) were involved in a closely fought clash, with Elms eventually winning in 62.12 from Oldershaw and Andrea Pickup (Dulwich Park Runners).

The winners of the male vet categories were: MV40 Simon Hesketh (Larkfield AC) in 58.14; MV50 Steve Smyth (Dulwich Runners) in 62.10; MV60 Stewart McIntyre in 66.25.

The winners of the female vet categories were: FV35 Tina Oldershaw (Paddock Wood AC) in 63.23; FV45 Clare Elms (Dulwich Park Runners) in 62.12; FV55 Jane Bright (Larkfield AC).

Medals were presented to all the finishers by the Mayor of Dartford, Ian Armitt.
