Dartford captain Elliot Bradbrook is happy to keep curbing his attacking enthusiasm if it means the team carries on getting results.
Bradbrook, 29, has scored four goals in his last seven games but he’s been asked by manager Tony Burman to play the holding role in midfield this season.
The skipper’s natural instinct is to bomb forward but he has the discipline to sit deeper and let his team-mates take on the creative duties.
Bradbrook said: "I’ve been asked to play a different role than I’ve been used to in previous years. That means I haven’t been getting forward as much as I’d like, or as I have done in the past, but it’s for the good of the team.
"Tony needs me to stay in the middle and keep the team shape. If he asked me to play in goal, I’d go in goal. It’s all about the team and if I can play that role and it helps the team succeed, that’s enough for me.
"The nice thing is that we’ve now got a lot of what I call footballers in the team. We’ve got a lot of ball players and we’ve got some pacy wingers, which we’ve never really had before.
"We’ve had players that are up for the battle and who can win games that way – I’m one of them – but we’ve got some real quality on the ball with (Peter) Sweeney now. We’ve got some wide guys that are good on the ball and they’re the ones who are going to start creating our chances going forward.
"I’m not required to do that as much any more, which is fine by me. If we’re winning games, it doesn’t matter to me at all."
