Burman: I've not signed Ketchell yet

DARTFORD have made a third raid on Brentwood Town, this time tempting central defender Richard Ketchell to join the club for pre-season training.

The 20-year-old former West Ham trainee is hoping to join the Essex club’s former skipper and midfielder Danny Dafter and attacking midfielder Lee Noble at Princes Park.

Dartford manager Tony Burman said: “Despite what’s been written elsewhere, I have not signed Richard.

“I’ve invited him to pre-season training because I want to take a closer look as I’ve only seen him once. He can also play at left-back, so that’s another string to his bow.

“With Danny and Lee coming here, I know that Richard would like to join them, though I’m aware that other clubs are interested in him.”

Should Burman make Ketchell his fifth summer signing, he confessed to facing a difficult task in keeping all his players happy as he seeks to establish a first team squad of 16 to 18 players.

“I want another three, including goalkeeper cover. Maybe I’ll have to wait until just before the start of the season to get the experienced goalkeeper I need,” said Burman.

“We’re prepared to be patient to get the right players but I know my toughest job will be keeping everyone happy.

“We want players with hunger to play at this level, players who have the ability and the determination to hot up competition for places.

“This leads to disappointment when players are left out of the side. A big part of management is keeping those players happy.”
