Charlton caretaker boss Phil Parkinson has signed Sheffield Wednesday striker Deon Burton and Derby defender Jay McEveley on loan.
In a busy day of transfer activity, Addicks striker Luke Varney has moved in the opposite direction to Derby.
McEveley has joined on a three-month loan, while Burton's loan move is with a view to a permanent free transfer.
Varney's switch is also with a view to a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee in January.
Parkinson told the club's website: "There's no fee involved for Deon, and he's a player I've admired for a long time.
"What concerned me slightly is that if Andy Gray got injured, we lacked a hold-up player and I was struggling to find two strikers who complimented each other.
"But with Deon here, it gives me the option to replace Andy and they also have the ability to play together.
"All over the football pitch, you need partnerships and it's important you get the right balance in all areas.
"I'm also delighted to bring Jay in. Despite his young age, he has got a lot of experience, both in the Premier League and the Championship.
"He's a big, strong, athletic full-back, who will give us much-needed consistency in that area."
Parkinson said he felt Varney needed a change of scenery to kick-start his career.
"It was a chance for the club to recoup a large chunk of the transfer fee paid out for him," he added.
Burton and McEveley's arrivals take Charlton's quota of loan players to seven, with only five able to be named in a matchday squad.
