Kent's Naomi Cavaday gave a brave performance before bowing out 7-6, 6-1 in the first round of Wimbledon to four-time champion Venus Williams on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old from Chislehurst was first on centre court on day two of the championships against the seventh-seeded American, who won the title in 2000, 2001, 2005 and last year.
Despite the pressure, the Brit broke the American in the first game and played some superb shots to take a 3-1 lead at one stage.
However, Williams broke back to make it 3-3 and the first set went the distance, the American eventually prevailing 7-6 in a tie-break, despite saving a set-point.
After her blistering first set performance proved fruitless, Cavaday slumped to a 6-1 defeat in the second set after less than an hour and 25 minutes of her Centre Court debut.
"It was a great experience for me," said Cavaday. "I got off to a great start. I really just went at her - I had to give it everything I have got.
"As soon as I got on court I was comfortable, I was happy, and was just raring to go."
