Pressure piled on manager Alan Pardew as Charlton slumped to a seventh Coca-Cola Championship defeat with Tuesday's beating by Bristol City at The Valley.

Pardew, who along with his players, was booed off at the end of the game, had no complaints.

"The fans pay good money and, after our second half performance, I don't blame them," he said.

Pardew, who did not emerge from the dressing-room until 10.30pm, disclosed that he had plenty to say after the Addicks' slide left them with the unthinkable prospect of becoming embroiled in a relegation dog-fight.

"Clearly, I have a lot of thinking to do between now and Saturday's home game against Burnley," he added.

"I need to make changes and I need to get inside the heads of certain players. I would also like to bring in some players on loan but I will have to speak to the directors about that."

Charlton started brightly and dominated the early exchanges with Andy Gray hitting a post in the 22nd minute and City goalkeeper Adriano Basso denying the home side with a series of fine saves.

The game turned in the 26th minute when Nicky Bailey's slip played in Dele Adebola and his pass left Lee Trundle with a simple goalscoring opportunity.

After that, Charlton's brittle confidence snapped and City deservedly added a second in the 52nd minute when Gavin Williams curled home their second.

Charlton played out the remainder of the match to a chorus of jeers from their own fans.
