Charlton have released Denmark Under-21 winger Martin Christensen on a free transfer in what is expected to be the prelude to a clear-out of players at The Valley.

Former manager Alan Pardew, who had Christensen on trial at former club West Ham, paid Herfolge BK £250,000 for the 21-year-old who signed a four-year contract early in March, 2007.

Though he arrived with a big reputation, he failed to make a single first team appearance and was loaned to Dutch side Heracles Almelo in January 2008.

Christensen's agent, John Sivabaek confirmed that the player was looking to return to Denmark.
