Dartford look set to be playing in Vanarama Conference South next season despite fighting back for a point at Torquay.
The result leaves Dartford nine points from safety with only four games remaining. Alfreton, who occupy the 20th spot, were beaten 4-0 at Wrexham.
Dartford managed to keep the home side pretty quiet in the first half with Ryan Hayes creating a couple of chances for Darts.
He drilled an effort across the box that just needed a touch, before an in-swinging corner was punched clear from under his own bar by the Torquay keeper.
James McQuilkin had Torquay's best chance of the first half, firing over when he should have done better.
Torquay started the better in the second half and should have gone in front through Briscoe who blasted an effort over, when under no pressure, following good build-up play from Courtney Cameron and Aaron Downes.
But two minutes later, Torquay went in from through McQuilkin in the 67th minute, firing home from 20 yards as their second-half pressure finally told.
Dartford fought back though, showing plenty of spirit, and after McQuilkin fired a free-kick just over for the hosts, they levelled through Jordan Chiedozie in the 81st minute.
Chiedozie pounced after a shot from distance was only half saved and following a goalmouth scramble, stabbed it home.
Dartford through everyone forward in the final nine minutes, but they failed to find the vital second goal.
