Dartford manager Tony Burman will hold talks with striker Jay May this week in a bid to keep him at the club for another season.
May has attracted the attentions of numerous clubs, including professional league outfits, after another successful season saw him score 17 goals for promotion-winning Dartford.
The striker had a brief trial with League 1 side Yeovil last season and could return to the Somerset side for another work-out during pre-season.
Burman, who last year let talented winger Dave Martin leave for Crystal Palace, would be keen for May to progress but he has not given up on keeping the striker with the Darts next season.
Burman said: “It’s no secret that he would like to play at a higher level and it’s a good thing that he wants to.
“You can’t knock him for wanting to do that but if he does go, I hope it will be at a higher level and he doesn’t just move sideways.
“He wants a little more time before he fully commits himself but he doesn’t want to leave.”
He added: “I’m going to be meeting him next week and hopefully things will be clearer then and we’ll just have to see what happens.”
Burman has continued to tie last season’s squad down for another season and this week captain Alex O’Brien and Tommy Osborne committed themselves to the club.
Burman has asked Junior Kadi and Nick Barnes back for pre-season along with youngsters Yohance Lewis, Mark Green, Tom Bradbrook and Luke Piscina.
