Darts in hunt for more firepower

Tony Burman wants to work with a minimum of three strikers
Tony Burman wants to work with a minimum of three strikers

DARTFORD manager Tony Burman is in the market for a new striker in a bid to bolster his side’s lightweight attack.

The goalless draw at Sittingbourne highlighted the lack of firepower currently at the club, with injuries restricting Burman’s options.

Jimmy Carter has seen a specialist following ligament damage, while another key player, Kevin Spriggs (ankle), is out for the rest of the season.

Burman has also had to adjust to the continued absence of Zimbabwean striker Tostao Kwashi, whose hands remain tied due to visa problems.

The Darts boss admitted: "We’re a bit short on front runners and we’ve got to have a look at it. With the injuries we have I’ll be looking to strengthen if the right player becomes available.

"We’ve lost Kevin Spriggs for the season through injury and Jimmy Carter isn’t playing at the moment. He’s due to see a specialist and hopefully it will be good news, but he could be out for quite a while. They’re two key players for us.

"We’ve got two recognised strikers and I want to work with three at a minimum and if I can get three available for selection then I’d be happy."

Burman has been looking to strengthen for several weeks and is prepared to take his time to get the right player.

He added: "We’ve got a tight budget here and we’re going to stick with it and not be held to ransom by any player."
