Alan Julian is ready to reignite his career at Dartford after what he described as a "nightmare" season with Newport County.
The former Gillingham and Stevenage goalkeeper signed for the Darts last week as a replacement for Louis Wells.
Moving to Princes Park means Julian will play part-time football for the first time but he had no hesitation in contacting Dartford goalkeeping coach John Macrae and subsequently opening talks with manager Tony Burman.
He said: "It was a big decision because being full-time, doing it every day, is great. But I’ve spoken to the manager and the way Dartford do things is professional. He’s a hungry manager and wants players who have got that hunger and desire."
Julian, 30, made the daily commute to Newport from his Middlesex home last season and he suffered knee ligament damage just 10 minutes into his Exiles career.
He said: "You learn from your mistakes in life. I signed for Newport and thought I’d just get on with it but after a few months I realised how much it was affecting me.
"It was 135 miles from my house to the training ground. With the injury as well, from start to finish it was a bit of a nightmare."
