Tony Burman believes his developing Dartford side are capable of achieving much more.
Four wins from their opening 10 Vanarama National South games leaves them mid-table with 14 points.
The Darts bossed Tuesday’s first half at high-flying Oxford City, but conceded two second-half goals to lose 2-1.
Burman said: "It has been stop-start. I am happy with the players’ attitude and how they have been but disappointed with our points tally.
"In a lot of games we have deserved something points-wise and in some games we have played well and lost.
"We are a work in progress and have to accept that there are games when we should win and don’t.
"I would like to have had 20 points. Two points a game is realistic with us a work in progress – nothing has stopped me thinking that in respect of what we have seen or played against.
"We still have targets to get to and we have been close. It’s something you have to learn when you are trying to build a team like we are."
Burman was disappointed with his side’s response to a second-half reshuffle by Oxford.
It’s something he hopes his men can learn from, starting with Saturday’s league game at home to Truro City.
Burman said: "For the first time this season, our organisation went. It happens but when it does happen, you try and keep a clean sheet.
"There will be times when it isn’t going so well but when it’s not, you have to try and hopefully pick up some points or a point. We haven’t done that on Tuesday.
"It is something we need to work on. I am sure we will and we will get a reaction on Saturday."
