Dartford boss Tony Burman bemoaned a lack of creativity after Dartford's 1-0 home defeat to Truro.

Visiting keeper Martin Rice had almost nothing to do on an afternoon when Dartford failed to turn their territorial advantage into goals.

Burman said: "Truro have come and done a job on us but we’ve got to learn to try to break that down. We had a lot of possession but we didn’t open them up enough.

"They had plenty of people behind the ball and we didn’t create enough in that last third or have that desire to say ‘I want to get in front of someone and get that goal’.

"The longer the game went on, you’re always open to a counter-attack and going a goal down and that’s exactly what happened."

Truro substitute Isaac Vassell scored the winner three minutes from time and Burman had a lengthy discussion with his players on the pitch after the final whistle.

He said: "When we got the ball wide, we didn’t get crosses in early. If we couldn’t go down the line and try to beat the full-back, we should have just come inside.

"We asked them to do that at half-time, not worry about having to get to the byline, just get some crosses in for Tom and Pughy but I think it took us 15 minutes to get a cross in in the second half and that’s where you’re banging your head against the wall, thinking ‘We’ve just been talking to you and you still had enough ball’.

"That’s not just the wingers. The full-backs should be going forward, overlapping and maybe getting a cross in as well.

"We didn’t break them down, we didn’t open them up and we’ve paid the penalty.

"We needed something, a spark, and we didn’t get that spark. We were in third gear and we needed to get in fourth and fifth.

"It’s difficult when they’ve got 11 people behind the ball but you have respect that and it’s down to us to open them up. We didn’t do it enough times."

The defeat saw Dartford drop to 13th in Vanarama National League South.
