Two early goals sunk Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night.
They fell behind to Championship leaders Derby on nine minutes when Jeff Hendrick converted Darren Bent's cross from close-range.
And the Addicks were 2-0 down eight minutes later. Hendrick turned provider for Derby's second goal, playing a through-ball for Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard to run on to and convert.
Hendrick rattled the crossbar in first-half stoppage-time as Derby hunted a third goal.
Charlton raised their game in the second half but the closest they came to scoring was when Johann Berg Gudmundsson's free-kick was tipped over by goalkeeper Lee Grant.
Guy Luzon's side are now 16th in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
