Welling boss Loui Fazakerley praised his team's defensive resolve after they reached the second round of the FA Cup.
The Wings kept a clean sheet during their battling 2-0 win at Northern League Premier Division Barwell, a team who sit two levels below Fazakerley's side.
"We knew it would be a tough game and it was," said Fazakerley.
"Credit to Barwell, they gave it eveyrthing and we knew that would be the case. We knew we had to stick together and we did.
"The elements were against us in the first half - the wind and the sun - so it was going to be backs against the wall at times but we got the first goal."
There was a aurprise return to the starting line-up for George Porter, who has been sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury.
But Fazakerley insisted that the plan was always to play him.
"We were just waiting for George to prove his fitness to us," said Fazakerley.
"We couldn't wait to get him back into the team and everyone can see what he brings."
Fazakerley dedicated the victory to Welling director George Evans, who passed away aged 74 last week.
"The boys really took to George as he was there every Friday at training," said Fazakerley.
"We spoke about it before and the boys wanted to dedicate the win and the performance to George so we're very happy we got the win."
