Golfer Saunders continues impressive form

Dartford Golf Club’s junior captain Michael Saunders has won through to a prestigious national youth competition.

Saunders, who turned 18 on Wednesday, recently shattered the club’s course record for the second time this season and has won a place in the final of the Daily Telegraph’s prestigious Junior Golf Championship.

The Bexley golfer has taken several junior open titles across the county this year to earn a place in the finals, which take place at the world-class Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

He took the Dartford Golf Club Junior Open title with a record score of 63 (net 64).

Dartford’s Daniel Byrne finished second in the Open tournament with 67 while the Girls’ Scratch event was won by Rebecca Humphries, also from Dartford, with a gross score of 75.

Throughout the summer around 40,000 under-18 golfers have been competing for a spot in the Daily Telegraph final and

Saunders will now join 21 others for the trip to the Emirates.
