Relegation is the word that no-one wants to speak of at the moment, but after defeats to Doncaster and Watford last week, unfortunately it's something that is moving ominously closer.

No-one wants to be involved in a relegation campaign, it's one of the worst things that can happen to a footballer in terms of his playing career.

Regardless of how often you've played, it's something that stays with you throughout your career. You can have missed the entire season through injury and all that people remember is the fact you were at a club when they were relegated.

Of course, should the worst happen, it will be the second time in three years for Charlton, but we're not at that point yet, and everyone is still in there fighting.

Personally, I'm just gutted at what has happened. I love Charlton, I love the place. I love the training ground and being around the players, and I love The Valley.

My career began with the club at the very top of the Premier League - albeit despite my sending off on my debut! - and looking at the league table now seems a world away from that.

Along with the rest of the lads, I will be doing my utmost to try to get us out of this situation.

People ask me about my future, and my contract, which expires at the end of the season, but those sort of things are irrelevant at the moment.

Unfortunately, things couldn't be more difficult in terms of our opposition in coming games.

Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday and then Preston North End the following weekend are both vying for promotion to the Premier League - where we should be - and will be desperate to gain three points to achieve their own ambitions.

Having said that, recent results in the division have shown that anyone can beat anyone else on their day, and we have to hope we have our day plenty of times in the last few months of the season.

We haven't had a lot of luck against Wolves in recent seasons, I think we've played three, lost three since we returned to the Championship. That's a record that must be improved this weekend.

On a more positive note, it was great to see Tresor Kandol find the net against Watford last weekend. I'm sure fans enjoyed his somersaulting celebrations, and let's hope we see that on a regular basis during the run of games until the end of the season.
