DARTFORD manager Tony Burman has added a goalkeeper to his pre-season wish list as he continues preparations for the new season.
Burman is also in the hunt for further firepower and, despite already making four new additions to last year’s squad, he’s hungry for more.
James Tedder’s decision to join Chatham leaves Dartford relying on teenager Deren Ibrahim, as cover for regular goalkeeper Tony Kessell and it’s one area Burman will be monitoring closely.
Burman said: “Ibrahim has done very well. He’s only 17 and he’ll be okay but I’m not going to throw him in at the deep end.
“By the time the season starts we could possibly have another goalkeeper on our books but it’s not the be all and end all.
“James Tedder did well in the Kent League last season with VCD and decided he wants to stay in first team football. He’s going to do well and is a good prospect but he’s still only 20 and as a goalkeeper you have to get that experience.
“It’s a difficult situation, because if we have a goalkeeper he has to be pushing Kessell and we’re looking in that area, but goalkeepers don’t want to be sitting on the bench.
“If we had Tedder sitting on the bench on a Saturday then he would be losing valuable experience.
“The forward line might be strengthened and I want to have options on the bench where players will be able to come on and change games.”
