Former Charlton crowd favourite Linvoy Primus is returning to The Valley on a season-long loan from Premier League Portsmouth.
Manager Alan Pardew confirmed after Saturday's 4-2 win against Reading that the central defender is expected back on Wednesday as part of the deal that took Jerome Thomas to Fratton Park this week.
Pardew said: "We've agreed a loan deal with Portsmouth for Linvoy and though he's carrying a knock, I believe he will be a big signing for us.
"He's a former Charlton player who is loved by the fans and he's an experienced character who will add to what we already have here.
"Linvoy made need a reserve team outing before we put him in the side.
"There could be another signing but the thing is that we've agreed the deal for Linvoy."
