There were some excellent performances from Crayford-trained greyhounds at the track last week in the BAGS/SIS Track Championship 2014 event.
The Crayford dogs took on runners from both Romford and Sittingbourne tracks across 10 races in Group D of this year’s event to find the top track in the country.
Each race featured two dogs from each track that earned points for their team according to their finish position, with Crayford taking full advantage of their home leg with a score of 107 points followed by Romford on 91 and Sittingbourne on 82.
There were wins for Phat Mary, Twilight Des, Never Mind Eh, Aero Jiminez and Dash On Black, and Crayford runners made it a one-two result in two of the races with Mountcashel Anne and Bua Frank finishing second.
The second leg will be held at Sittingbourne on Sunday, October 26 and the third at Romford on Monday, November 17. The three tracks’ scores will be carried over from each fixture and added to give a total cumulative score across all three legs, the winning track will then progress to the national final on Tuesday, December 23 at a neutral venue to be announced later.
Crayford’s team captain trainer, Paul Tompsett, must have been pleased with the performance of the Crayford dogs and we can expect some of them to now feature again in the coming fixtures.
These races are not easy to win, with each track fielding the best available to them, so I would suggest to you that when our greyhounds return to graded racing here at Crayford they would be well worth following.
Back on the graded race front, Get There Topps made it a winning debut for trainer Barry O’Sullivan – winning by an impressive six lengths in grade A8 over 380m.
The dog had come over from Ireland in early September, this being his first career race, and after a trap-to-line leading performance he recorded 24.03sec which gives the dog plenty of scope to win at A7 level on his reappearance.
Droopys Priya also registered a winning debut for trainer Julie Luckhurst when she won her A3 grade race in a fast time of 23.47. She was a recent purchase at the greyhound auction held here in September, and may well prove to be a very shrewd purchase.
