Quivers Dino won the Owners Bonus final here at the weekend to land a £500 prize for trainer Arun Green.

The dog has had just 11 races here, winning seven with two second-place finishes – an extremely high strike rate for any graded greyhound.

The dog started his racing career here in mid-January in bottom grade A8, so his progress up to what will now be grade A2 next time out has been relentless.

The dog’s win time at the weekend of 23.65sec would certainly give him a chance of winning an A2 race and he is one for your notebooks.

I have been trying to familiarise myself with our new trainer Katie O’Flaherty’s greyhounds and it is apparent she has some good graded dogs in her kennel.

Given she is still in the process of grading her dogs onto our race card, a couple have already produced wins and warrant a mention.

Jar Of Ale doesn’t lose his puppy status until next month but after two third-place finishes, he won his first event here in just his third career race in a good time of 23.76 in grade A4.

He looked unlucky in his first two races but made no mistake this time, showing plenty of early pace to take up the lead at the first bend.

From that point he never looked like being beaten.

The winning margin of two-and-a-quarter lengths and the accompanying win time would now give him a great chance to win an A3 race. Clearly, the dog is full of enthusiasm and runs the track here well.

Time To Think made it a winning debut here for Katie on March 7 in a top-grade S1 race over 540m and was unlucky at the weekend when finishing second to Rock N Rye by just a length.

She, like most greyhounds, is hit and miss when the traps open but when she gets it right has plenty of ability.

Just the two races here but seven wins at Henlow show she knows how to win.

Interestingly, both of the dog’s races here have been over our 540m distance while all of her 23 races at Henlow were over 460m. It would seem the extra 80m is to the dog’s liking.

I can also recommend you keep an eye on Twist The Lot from Katie’s kennel. In just the dog’s third race here, she recorded a fast win time of 23.58 in grade A6. That time, if repeated, would be good enough to win in higher grades.
