Stunned Xavier Vidal chose the perfect time to score his first ever hat-trick on Tuesday night.
Vidal went one better and scored all four goals as Welling beat Ryman League Grays 4-0 in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round replay at Park View Road.
And the former Dulwich Hamlet midfielder proved the difference between the two sides.
"It's the first time I've scored four goals," said Vidal. "It was exciting and i don't really know what to say!
"I got two goals and then Reece Harris went through but he shot wide instead of squaring it to me so I didn't think I was going to get a hat-trick.
"But luckily I got another chance to get my hat-trick and then I got another goal as well."
Vidal also scored a perfect hat-trick, following up a left-footed finish with a header for his second goal and then a clinical right-foot strike for the third goal.
"It's the first header I've ever scored," admitted Vidal, who took his tally for the season to eight goals. "I don't really get in the box so I was surprised that it went in.
"My target was to get 10 goals by December so that has put me on track."
Welling edged past Grays at the second attempt and now travel to Northern League Premier Division Barwell in the first round on November 7.
Vidal added: "We didn't play that well on Sunday. We had the clearer chances in the first game so I don't think we were lucky to stay in, but we've come back to our place and put the performance right.
"It didn't matter who we got in the next round, we've got to go there and look to win the game."
