Welling boss Andy Ford has completed the signing of Sonny Cobbs - his number one transfer target this summer.
Cobbs spent the second half of last season on loan at the Wings from League 1 Brighton but was released by the League 1 club at the end of the campaign.
He trained with Welling at the start of pre-season but it looked as though he was joining Salisbury last week when he went for a trial at the Blue Square Premier club - only for them to play him in their reserves.
That led Cobbs to return to Welling and he has put pen to paper on a one-year deal.
Ford said: "I'm really pleased to have him on board.
"He is my type of player, strong, keen and hungry. If I was in the trenches then I'd want Sonny Cobbs next to me."
Ford confirmed that he wanted to build his team around Cobbs at the start of pre-season but his plans have now changed.
"I've had to move on," said Ford, explaining that Cobbs could now be used in a variety of positions.
"He is so flexible, he can play centre-back, left-back and left-midfield as well. It's all competition for places and that can't be a bad thing."
Ford has also completed the signings of midfielder Seb Schoburg and forward Sol Pinnock while trialists Dorian Smith and Charley Hearn will get another chance to impress in Tuesday night's friendly at Ashford.
