Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate Clair Hawkins was in Dover on Saturday to talk to people about the high cost of living.

Ms Hawkins was among Labour activists campaigning all over the UK, demonstrating that the cost of living has increased since David Cameron became Prime Minister in 2010.

She was seen standing outside Marks & Spencer in Biggin Street speaking to shoppers. She also visited the Buckland estate. Ms Hawkins said: “On the same day it was revealed that wages in the South East are now on average £2,061 a year lower since David Cameron became PM.

“As well as asking people to sign our petition calling on government to freeze energy prices, our #CostofCameron campaign includes highlighting that rents are rising twice as fast as wages, rail fares are up 20% since 2010 and childcare costs have increased £304 in just a single year.

“Instead of giving millionaires a tax cut, Labour would expand free childcare to 25 hours for working parents, stop the exploitative use of zero hours contracts and freeze gas and electricity prices while sorting out the broken energy market.”

On the day she tweeted: “Glorious Dover sunshine for our afternoon in Buckland talking to people about the #CostofCameron.”
