Aldi has resubmitted a planning application for a supermarket in a town after it was refused last month - without making a single alteration to its original plan.
The German discounter's proposal to demolish the existing Co-op store in Park Street in Deal and replace it with one of its own was rejected - with the difference of just one vote - by Dover District Council last month.
The main objections orientated around the felling of 10 mature trees, with two petitions attracting a total of 250 signatures.
But, having been "inundated" with emails and calls from disappointed residents, the chain has since announced it has resubmitted its application with no amendments.
The decision, they say, is to avoid a lengthy appeal process.
An Aldi spokesperson confirmed: “When planning permission was narrowly refused by councillors last month, we were inundated with emails and calls from local people who were disappointed with the news and keen to ensure Aldi don’t give up.
"Rather than just appeal the decision, which would have been a lengthy process and left the site vacant for a period of time, we have submitted a new planning application in the hope that the store may be approved by local councillors second time round.
"The scheme has not changed, as unfortunately we cannot build the store and provide the parking we need whilst retaining all the on-site trees.
"However, we have retained the commitment to increase the number of trees across the site through the planting of 12 semi-mature trees along with the costly infrastructure to ensure they thrive.
"The application is also submitted with Aldi’s renewed commitment to a financial contribution to allow for further off-site tree planting within the vicinity of Deal town centre, intended to further improve the visual character of the area."
The contribution is £15,000.
