Final preparations are being made for Dover Carnival which takes place on Sunday July 8.

The procession will be led by Miss Dover, Astor College student Kayleigh Anderton, and her court, and the organisers are hoping many local people will take part.

Popular and colourful band Bloco Fogo will be taking part again, sponsored by Dover Town Council, and the Air Training Corps Band, two majorette groups and two local dance groups will also be there.

The floats will line up in the Russell Street car park on Sunday by 5pm to be judged and ready for the start of the parade at 6pm.

The event had originally been planned to be part of the Dover Regatta weekend, but now that the regatta has been cancelled, it is going ahead on its own.

“Due to the success of the carnival in 2011 we are hoping that more local people will want to be a part of this year’s carnival,” said organiser John Trickey.

Kayleigh will be joined by her princesses Ellen Habbershaw and Katie Sheppard, Dover Junior Queen Lauren Habbershaw and princesses Mia Presnell and Chloe Nix.

The Rosebud Queen is Jasmin Cloke, Deputy Senior Queen Carris Ffrench and Deputy Junior Queen Holly Andrew.

Entries for the carnival parade are being invited for various categories, including youth organisations, local and non-local residents, sports clubs and adult organisations, local traders and shops and non-local traders and shops.

Other classes include youth bands, majorettes, fancy dress, decorated prams and bicycles and classic vehicles.

The maximum height is five metres and the maximum width is three metres.
