Archbishops visit Cross-Links

Cross-Links – on Dover’s Buckland Estate – is far from a traditional "church".

But on Saturday, some very special visitors called in to see the work that is being done there, in difficult circumstances.

Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, brought a number of Archbishops from overseas to meet lay minister Nigel Collins and his team.

They enjoyed coffee as they chatted to parents, children, volunteers and trustees. With the help of some children and young people, Archbishop Rowan made a paper flower, which he took home with him to Old Palace, Canterbury.

Described by the Bishop of Dover, the Rt Rev Trevor Willmott as “a church with a difference” that “helps the local community in many ways”, the centre, at Sheridan Road, is run by lay minister Nigel Collins with help from local volunteers.

Archbishop Rowan Williams said: “We brought our guests here today as we wanted to show them the best of what the church here can do."
