At least one dog walker has been injured by the barbed wire that has sealed off Coldblow Woods at Walmer, and recent pictures have shown more could follow - including animals.

Paula McCormack, of Belmont in Walmer, had a near miss when the sharp edged wire caught her in the face, narrowly missing her eyeball.

She said: "on Bank Holiday Monday, we came from Dover Road and went down an alley at the back of the caravan park.

"When I came to the far top (the foot path by Ripple Road) I walked straight into some branches and straight into some barbed wire."

She was cut once between her eye-lid and brow and again on her cheek.

Mrs McCormack is one of many people who regularly use the woods for dog walking, wildlife spotting and general recreation.

But the site is privately owned and the owner is in his rights to put up wire to secure his land. The Mercury has not found out who the owners are, but signs around the woods say they belong to Ringwould Cricket Club, which ceased to exist decades ago.
