Betteshanger's indoor cricket side have reached the national finals of the ECB 6-a-side Club Championship for the second time in four years.

And they will be hoping to make it a hat-trick of Kent triumphs at Lord’s on Sunday, March 17, following the victories by Canterbury and Whitstable in the past two years.

Bettes, this year’s Kent champions who lost in the national semi-finals in 2010, booked their return visit to the home of cricket by winning the South Regional Finals at the Kent Cricket Academy in Canterbury on Sunday.

In the semi-finals they swept aside Worcester Park in emphatic fashion.

The Surrey champions were restricted to 64-4 in their 12 overs and Bettes then reached their target in just 9.2 overs without losing a wicket.

Their opponents in the final were Essex champions Five & Heronians, who had beaten Sawbridgeworth, of Hertfordshire, in the other semi-final.

Bettes skipper Joffy Towe won the toss and, after being asked to bat, Fives were restricted to 109 all out.

Bettes started badly in reply, losing Joffy Towe and Bob Spence cheaply before Jamie Towe and Andy McNicholas - both of whom reached 25 - steadied the innings.

With 14 required from the last over Heronians bowled an early wide but then two dot balls and a single with a run out left the returning Jamie Towe needing 12 from three balls.

He hit three off the fourth, smashed a six off the fifth and then scored two off the final ball. That left the scores tied but victory went to Bettes by virtue of having lost one less wicket.

Skipper Joffy Towe said: "It was all a bit frantic at the end because Jamie hit the final ball only a few yards away from the bowler but they made a misfield and were able to scramble the two runs we needed. It was nerve-wracking to say the least."
