Police are warning people in east Kent to beware that fake £20 notes are circulating in the area.

Officers are investigating a number of reports that young people are using them in Sandwich and could also be using them in Dover, Deal and Ramsgate.

Fake notes can be hard to spot and people are advised to check the feel of the paper, the raised print, metallic thread and watermark.

Retailers should also continue to use UV detector lights where available.

It is a criminal offence to hold on to or pass on counterfeit notes.

Anyone with information about the circulation of fake notes is asked to contact the police on 101, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
