The controversial screen, which is being provided free by the
London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, was lowered into
place by crane and test transmissions have now been carried
out.

There were mixed reactions from people watching it being
installed. One described as a monstrosity, while others have said
they welcome it.

Nearby residents have spoken of their concern that it will
result in increased noise, nuisance and anti-social behaviour.

As well as showing the Olympic Games in 2012, the screen will be
used to show other major sporting and cultural events.

The BBC will control the output of the screen, and local
authorities will be responsible for the running costs.

Kent County Council is putting £75,000 into the project, with
£35,000 coming from the East Kent and Coastal Primary Care Trust
and £5,000 from the Dover Pride Regeneration Partnership.
