Voters take to the polls to choose their Kent county councillors in Dover, Deal and Sandwich

Voters go to the polls today (Thursday) to choose their county councillors.

Electors in Dover district will be voting for councillors in seven seats, two each in the Dover Town and Deal and Walmer divisions and one each in Dover North, Dover West and Sandwich.

Kent County Council is currently a Conservative administration with Ukip as the official opposition.

Voters go to the ballot box today to choose their county councillors

Labour have the two Dover Town seats and two at the Deal division, now being renamed Deal and Walmer.

The Conservatives have the remaining three seats.

The district has 58 polling stations throughout its villages and town neighbourhoods, open from 7am - 10pm.

The count takes place at Dover Town Hall tomorrow (Friday) with all results expected by the end of the day.

The 33 candidates in the running are:

Deal and Walmer (two seats): Trevor Bond (Con), Will Darlington (Lib Dem), Mike Eddy (Lab), Sylvia Hanael (Ukip), Graham Lane (Ukip), John Lonsdale (Grn), Derek Murphy (Con), Eileen Rowbotham (Lab), Christopher Tough (Ind), John Trickey (Lib Dem).

Dover North (one seat): Nick Fox (Grn), Steve Manion (Con), Tim Turner (Ukip), Charles Woodgate (Lab).

Dover Town (two seats): Pauline Beresford (Con), Adrian Briggs (Lib Dem), Pam Brivio (Lab), Nigel Collor (Con), Gordon Cowan (Lab), Ben Glayzer (Ukip), Carolyn Hughes (Lib Dem), Georgette Rapley (Ukip), Beccy Sawbridge (Grn).

Dover West (one seat): Jim Caple (Lib Dem), Sarah Gleave (Grn), Geoffrey Lymer (Con), Peter McDermott (Ukip), Miriam Wood (Lab).

Sandwich (one seat): Sue Chandler (Con), Lesley Ede (Ukip), David Pestell (Lab), Wendy Scott (Lib Dem), Aidan Shanks (Grn).

Two Dover District Council by-elections take place today too.

There are three candidates for the Buckland ward: Nathaniel Richards (Labour), Callum Warriner (Conservative) and Tim Turner (Ukip).

For Maxton, Elms Vale and Priory there are four candidates.

These are Peter McDermott (Ukip), again a KCC candidate, Ann Napier (Labour), Roger Walkden (Conservative) and Graham Wanstall (Independent).
