Red, white and blue were the colours of the day when people put up the bunting, donned their party hats and celebrated the royal wedding on Friday.

While many people watched the ceremony on television in their own homes, others got together outside to follow events as they unfolded, and around 100 went to Dover’s Market Square to watch it on the big screen.

People from the town took advantage of a special coach trip while others made the most of the extra train service that had been laid on from Dover Priory to London to witness the procession first hand.

They saw Prince William and Kate Middleton make their way to Westminster Abbey, and then return to Buckingham Palace as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Celebrations got underway early at the Age Concern Riverside Centre in Dover which was decorated by volunteers with balloons, bunting and pictures of the couple. There were plenty of flags to wave and even the food was patriotic - cakes topped with red, white and blue icing!

Elsewhere in the town, a number of street parties were taking place and everyone was making the most of the sunshine that came out while the ceremony was being held, and continued for the rest of the afternoon.

In the run-up to the day itself a number of schools had been holding special activities focusing on everything that goes to make a successful wedding, and many of them held tea parties.
