Dover girl Chantelle Ghyselen has missed out on going straight through to the semi-finals of the Miss England competition, despite winning a public vote.

But all is not lost. she is now going head-to-head with other popularity vote winners from all over the UK for a place in the next round and possibly a place in the final.

Chantelle, 17, was more than 200 votes ahead of her nearest rival, Amber Hazelton, from Accrington, in the regional heat when the public voting closed.

Despite that, Amber was chosen as the semi-finalist, with Chantelle in fifth place.

The contestants were told that winning the public vote did not necessarily mean they would win their heat of the competition.

Chantelle has gone into the Miss Popularity round which is being judged by the Miss England office.

One girl will go forward to Miss England and represent her town in the national final and another girl will go through to the Miss England semi-finals in June.
