Kent County Council warns Dover people to keep an eye out for rogue traders after attempts have been made to undermine residents.

KCC Trading Standards received a report of two men knocking on doors in the Dover area.

The council believe that con-men are using the recent floods as an excuse to target people at their front doors.

Both men claimed to be working nearby and told the victims that they had a hole in their chimney.

The rogue traders were falsely claiming that people needed work doing to their houses.

One man is five ft 11, around 30 years-old and with short hair, and the other is around five ft nine, between 18 to 20-years-old with fair medium length hair.

Both men are white, with no noticeable accent.

The conmen have been seen driving a white box Transit van, with ladders on a roof rack.

To avoid these situations, people are asked not be be pressured into signing anything, nor to let unknown callers into their home.

Usually conmen will make a quote above the average price and produce poor quality work.

Residents are asked to bare in mind that they are entitled to a seven day cooling off period if they have made a payment over £35.
