Council officers are preparing to take action against householders who allow their wheelie bins to block the pavement outside their homes.

It’s likely to be the next issue to upset residents who didn’t want the bins in the first place, and who say the appearance of streets has been made worse by the new arrivals.

Residents have complained that mums with pushchairs have had to walk in the road in order to get around bins that are taking up space on the pavements.

When the bins were issued, householders were told that they had to store them within the boundary of their property and not leave them on the pavement.

But some say that detracts from the appearance of their homes, with long lines of bins in some streets.

Now, two Dover councillors have taken the issue up with district council officials.

Cllr John Goodwin, who has received complaints about bins in Albert Road, said council officers told him they would be investigating the area to see if residents had hard standings where they could store the bins, rather than on the pavement.

“They will be knocking on people’s doors,” he said.

There is also concern about bins overflowing with rubbish in the Folkestone Road, area.
