Plans for a crazy golf course to replace a vacant putting green have been passed.
Planning councillors last night (Thursday) voted for the scheme at Walmer Promenade next to the paddling pool.
Cllr David Beaney told the Dover District Council meeting: "I think it's going to be a great asset to Deal and Walmer.
"I would like the people running this to bring it to Dover town as well."
Cllr Roger Walkden said: "It is going to ideal, good for tourism and local businesses.
"I think it's a really good idea."
The scheme was voted through by six to four at a remote meeting.
Cllr Trevor Bond, who was against it, said: "For it not to have toilets except the public toilets I find very strange.
"It is good for tourism and if it was in another part of Deal I'd give it 100% support.
"But the green is for everyone and here we are fencing more and more off."
Cllr Edward Biggs, also voting against it, said: "The open vista in this area is the major attraction.
"It is an attractive development but it's in the wrong place."
The scheme was passed with conditions that the public toilets would be signposted and the green space would be reinstated should the venture end up not being viable.
The application is by Manston Golf Centre Ltd, which already runs a similar site, Rascal Bay in Ramsgate.
The design for the Walmer site has references to the area's history including smuggling, fishing and both Walmer and Dover Castles.
The development also includes a 12m by 6.5m entrance kiosk made of white painted timber cladding and and a felt roof.
It would back onto the promenade.
